About

Manitou Farm is located near Jamestown, in northern Moniteau County. The farm is operated by Marcus Monroe and his family, and has been in operation since 1986. Everything grown on the farm is produced using organic practices, and products from the farm have been sold at Columbia and Cole County farmers markets for more than 17 years. Marcus specializes in growing unusual and exotic fruits, and also grows nuts, vegetables, greens and herbs. The farm is one of the largest producers of pawpaws and american persimmons in Missouri. Other fruit crops grown include honeyberries, figs, cherries, blackberries, blueberries, phenomenal berries, jujubes, and asian persimmons. Also grown are apples, goumi, autumn olive, edible dogwood, mulberries, rose hips, asian pears, pecans, walnuts, and cut flowers. A high tunnel on the farm is used for the growing of figs, asian persimmons, phenomenal berries and vegetables. The farm is well known for its extensive collection of hot peppers, which are available as fresh produce, dried peppers and pepper products. Value-added products offered by the farm include, dried fruits, jams and jellies, handmade soap and baked goods utilizing on-farm products.
