About

The Veggie Patch was established in 1995 and has been actively growing and producing high quality products for sale in the Mid-Missouri area. The business is owned and operated by Jim & Paula Thies, Deanna Thies, & Jermyn and Jana Porter. The Veggie Patch has been distributing products at the Columbia Farmers Market, through local grocery stores, and at several mid-Missouri restaurants and facilities. We have also established a CSA program in the hopes to expand the opportunity to provide high quality produce to many more customers. Although we are not organic, at The Veggie Patch we use integrated pest management and sustainable practices in order to produce our product. When necessary, we will utilize sprays to avoid a complete crop loss.

The Veggie Patch started out as an FFA project. In 1995, the family lived in Glasgow (in town) and had a small family garden in the backyard. They also would rent garden plots from neighbors within walking distance. Today the farm consists of seven acres just east of Boonville, some of which sees as many as three crop turnovers during one growing season. Although the garden has grown over the years, two things are always important — appearance and variety. We love trying new types of vegetables and specialize in heirloom varieties of produce including tomatoes, winter squash, pumpkins, eggplant, and more. At any time of the year, you can usually see over 20 different varieties or types of produce at our booth for sale.

In addition to selling the produce, we love to interact and educate the consumer. We love when customers are able to stop by our booth and ask about the various types of produce we raise and how to prepare it.
