Butternut Press

Maria Galuszka is a Richmond- based ceramic artist who creates functional and decorative wares under her brand Butternut Press. She focuses on handbuilding each form and implementing the ‘sgraffito’ technique for decoration. Instead of thrown on a potter’s wheel, each piece is constructed using slabs, coils and pinching. ‘Sgraffito’ is the process of incising marks through slips or underglazes to reveal the clay beneath. All pieces are one of a kind!
