Hand to Hand Farm - Formerly Mitten Creek Farm

Farmer

About

Mitten Creek farm was started in 2020 on a small five acre property in East LeRoy, MI owned and operated by first generation farmers: The Phillips Family. We got into farming to ensure we can provide the most nutritionally dense food to our family as possible and had a hard time finding it. We chose to buy a small property and convert into a functioning farm focused on regenerative agriculture, organic practices, through a permaculture design. We currently offer chicken (meat and eggs) and will have pork available in late October.
In 2022, we are transitioning our farm from East LeRoy to Battle Creek, MI onto a historical farmed property with 35 acres. We are expanding our offerings and are excited to grow in community and health!

Production Practices

Pasture Raised: Meat Birds are moved daily to fresh pasture to allow for bugs and fresh bedding!
Forest Raised: Hogs are moved throughout the woods to forage for nuts, berries, and legumes.
Free Range: Our laying flock have access to our five acres and roam freely from dusk to dawn.

Regenerative: By our practices, we are building soil fertility, reducing energy inputs and healing the land, water, and air.
Local: Our feed is grown in Michigan, our processor is in Michigan, and when possible, our equipment is made in Michigan or at minimum the United States. We believe in supporting local in all things!
Ethical: Eating meat means that an animal loses its life. We believe in respecting an animal from day of birth through the act of harvesting for our health and subsistence. While emotionally difficult, we have pride in the process we have implemented to providing our livestock with as ethical life as we can provide.
