Uptown Jerky Co. was founded by Oklahoma native Mitchell Morris. In 2012, Mr. Morris had a nearly fatal experience after being diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes and going into Diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA). After spending many days and weeks in the hospital and ICU, his prayers were answered and Mr. Morris was finally able to go home. However, per doctor's orders, he was instructed to be on a very strict, low carbohydrate diet until his blood sugar could stabilize. During this time Mr. Morris began making his very own beef jerky from home to have as one of his favorite healthy, lean, and high protein snacks. As friends and family began to try his newly invented jerky snacks, they began requesting orders from him. Through God's blessings and word of mouth, this is how the business came to fruition.
