All of my functional ceramic wares are constructed by handbuilding processes (slab, coil, pinch) and intricately decorated using sgraffito carving techniques. These whimsical images of flora and fauna are always on-of-a-kind illustrations. Each piece is fully functional but also can be used purely as decorative art.
I am a full time potter and educator, teaching adult classes at the Visual Arts Center of Richmond. I hold a degree in painting and drawing, which has come heavily into play in my ceramic works as I freehand draw and carve images onto my pots. For years I sold my works under my brand, Butternut Press, but have recently changed business names.
