Black Cap Hot Sauce is an all-natural fermented hot sauce made by husband and wife team, Jack and Nicki Moore, in Columbus, Ohio. Our hot sauce is made in ridiculously small batches (5 gallons at a time), and is vegan, gluten-free, probiotic (living culture), unfiltered, unpasteurized, and unapologetically delicious! The ingredient list is clean: Fresno peppers, garlic, ginger, lime zest, salt, chia seeds, and water - that's it.

The namesake resulted from blind taste tests with Chef Jack's family and friends to finalize the recipe. One unmarked bottle had a black cap, and the other had a white cap. As taste tests began, “black cap” was the undisputed winner.

“Preserving a culture” is the mission of our brand, and that goes beyond preserving the live probiotic culture in our sauce. It extends to their sustainability practices and amplifying the health benefits of fermented foods.

We source ingredients locally whenever possible, so we also offer some SUPER small batch seasonal ferments (aka our "secret stash") alongside our flagship, Black Cap, when available.
