About

Odd Duck Homestead is a small 1/4 acre homestead in the beautiful town of Running Springs, CA. We have dedicated ourselves to growing and raising as much food as we can for ourselves and our small community. Being the odd ducks that we are, we also take on far too many projects, have far too many interests, and would like to offer any of the extras that we produce.

Our current focus is meat and egg production for our family (quail, duck, chicken with plans to sell to the public in 2023), mushrooms, and microgreens.

Production Practices

Antibiotic And Hormone Free Pastured Free Range Non Gmo Permaculture Design

Everything on our homestead is designed to reduce waste, encourage good health for ourselves and our livestock, and build fertility on the property. We do not give our animals antibiotics, hormones, or vaccines. We are proponents of pastured poultry (an endeavor we are working to implement more effectively every passing week). Our chickens and ducks are free to roam a fairly large run that we've built for them, and this year we expect to get our quail and Angora fiber rabbits access to pasture in protected tractors, which will also result in building better pasture in years to come. Mushrooms at a larger scale are new to us this year, but as we get a better foothold on our best practices and growing methods, we will attempt to produce our own cultures using raw materials from our own land (that means pine needles, to you flatlanders). We even have a duck pool that drains into our small garden area on the other side of the bird pen. We certainly don't have everything optimized on our property, but we work towards building a healthy, holistic property every day. We are, most certainly, a set of Odd Ducks.
