About

Hot Mama Salsa began in the kitchen of a North Portland bar back in 2008. From the beginning, Hot Mama Salsa’s mission was to provide fresh, delicious, and authentic Mexican flavors to the people of Portland. We missed the kind of food that feeds your soul when you grow up in the American Southwest and we wanted to bring it with us to Portland. HMS began selling a line of fresh salsas at farmers markets and in Cherry Sprout Produce. From then to 2012 the business remained small and part time as we studied nutrition, explored new recipes and ways to obtain local produce through local farm connections. In 2012 Hot Mama Salsa began to expand into the wholesale grocery market. We moved into a commercial commissary kitchen, expanded the product line to include hot sauces and chili oils, and hired a staff to support production and delivery. In 2016 Hot Mama Salsa returned to its roots by collaborating on a newly built commercial production kitchen in the back of Cherry Sprout Produce. We now work with Morgans Landing Farm on Sauvie Island to grow specialty peppers from around the world that we use to make our sauces. We strive to promote chili pepper education and traditional cooking methods. Our culture is one of family and strength, and it spreads through the act of making good food in order to make people happy. You can find our fresh salsas, hot sauces, and chili oils in grocery stores and farmers market throughout the Portland area.
