Wake Up Iowa Coffee

From the espresso cart in an Iowa City parking lot where Jarrett Mitchell and his dog Sleep Daddy first served eye-openers like the Velvet Hammer, our coffee has tastefully energized customers since 2011.

Plain old well-roasted espresso coexisted with inventive yet subtle drinks like the Local Honey Latte, the Goat Milk Latte, and Zeus's Sculpting Tool, as Jarrett honed his barista and roasting skills.

Next came the Wake Up Iowa City coffee counter in White Rabbit, a beloved locally-run shop specializing in Midwestern-crafted goods, vintage clothing, screen-printed tees, and gifts. Wake Up Iowa City operated out of its own space at Gilbert Court before Jarrett hung up his barista apron to focus on roasting coffee beans for retail sale and manufacturing his energy drink, Cobra Verde.

In 2015, Joel and Katrina Anderson moved from Chicago with their son Axel back to their native Iowa and were promptly shown the ropes by Jarrett, joining forces in the Wake Up Iowa cause. Is it a coincidence that the couple was married by Reverend Jarrett Mitchell of the Universal Life Church in September 2011, the same year he began Wake Up Iowa City?
