About

HUMBLE BEGINNINGS
“ HOOPS WINGS” began, with a Wing and a Prayer.

Julia P. Hooper always dreamed of being an Entrepreneur in 2017 the conception began of wanting to buy a Franchise, but funds and hardships, just wouldn't allow it, so she thought.

Julia Hooper, had the nickname “chicken wing” given by her Uncle Roy and Aunt Donna at the age of 5, every time she attended a family outing they would say, “come on chicken wing”, because that was the only way she would come to you, if you had a wing in hand.

In her teens, her choice of work was always a “wing” restaurant. As she began college, she began to think about what she wanted to do with her life, to please her dad it would be a degree in the area of pharmaceutical , for her mom it was to be one the first in her family to finish college.

Her Director of operations is her mother, Nancy Matthews. Nancy has always pushed Julia to follow her dreams and shoot for the moon, if she missed the moon, hang on to a star!

Julia`s ultimate dream is to receive that degree and conquer all aspects of entrepreneurship, by opening one of the First African American, (75%) Women owned, Franchised Wing Restaurants in Texas. “HOOPS WINGS”.

The name came from her Last name of course, and her love for basketball.

Opening “HOOPS WINGS” is a dream that is sure to please. Julia’s grandmother, Barbara Matthews who is a native of Shreveport Louisiana was known for her Famous Buttermilk Chicken, Vegan Wings, Fried Green Tomatoes, and Homemade Peach Cobbler that will be implemented at “HOOPS WINGS”.
These recipes are still being used today.

With “HOOPS WINGS” starting in Texas, this will let the continuation of good food, community outreach and job retention help the community to continue to thrive.

She has so much to look forward to, as she embarks on the reality of opening, “HOOPS WINGS”.

This Concept started as a dream, and this dream in 2019 hopefully will be reality. We didn't just want to start with a full service restaurant, we wanted to test the Market. Nancy Matthews is a Home cook which she calls herself a Culinary Engineer. She has always cooked for family during the Holidays , where she stepped up to the plate after her mom (Julia's Grand mother passed away of Heart disease). Her Peach Cobblers, Fried green tomatoes and Buttermilk wings are family recipes. What sparked the passion was Julia's drive for entrepreneurship and a Cowboy tail gate party where (Nancy) made peach cobbler for (30) and somebody screamed and said "WHO MADE THIS PEACH COBBLER" and (Nancy) eyes became watery and stated this is my moms recipe, " If I tell you how I made it I'll have to Kill you"( lol) and it began from there. At Hoops we strive for excellence in service, with "No Gimmicks Just Good Food". Julia's dream is to be Forbes 30/ 30 entrepreneur, one of the youngest African American, (75%) women owned "WING JOINTS" in Texas. With our first visit to the Farmers Market and talking to other vendors, we felt like this would be a great place to start. Our Future Goals are to place "Hoops Wings" throughout Texas, start a 501c3 (still in the works) to feed the less fortunate, 3 course meals, with the intention to meet their needs across the board the same day (bucket list across all 50 states(1) abroad) with Top volunteer chefs, with us coming from homelessness a meal in a plastic container just wasn't enough. Also a Family cook book, and packaging the Peach Cobblers (single and large) cooked and uncooked along with the "Buttermilk" seasoned flour mix in Stores nationwide.
