Over the past three decades, Pine Island Organics' founder, Dr. Patrick Barron, has been at the forefront of integrative physicians who believe that healthcare reform is about effectively changing the way we live, eat, care for our bodies and practice medicine in our society.Dr. Barron's holistic approach to well-being is reflected in the products he developed for Pine Island Organics by drawing on his lifelong interest in herbs and botanicals and his scientific training.

Early in his career, Dr. Barron owned and operated an organic vegetable farm in southern Ohio for a decade while studying Chemistry at Ohio University, Rehabilitation Counseling and Psychology at Marshall University and traditional Appalachian Herbal Medicine with Clarence “Catfish” Gray in West Virginia. He continued his studies in botanical medicine, ethnobotany and pharmacognosy with Drs. John Bastyr, Silena Heron, William Mitchell and Edward Madison.
He was originally introduced to Functional Medicine by Drs. Jeffery Bland, Alan Gaby, Joseph Pizzorno and Jonathan Wright. He obtained medical degrees from Bastyr University (Naturopathic Doctor), Universidad Central del Este (Medical Doctor) and the University of Washington (Post-Doctoral Studies).
Dr. Barron has practiced medicine and served as a medical consultant, educator and author. He is co-founder of Pine Island Publishing and the nonprofit Organic Farming Institute. (www.organicfarminginstitute.org).
