Codman Square Farmers Market

The Codman Square Farmers Market provides the community with fresh, local, organic produce; added value products from local vendors; education on nutrition; activities in the Codman Square Park and information about the community.

We started the Codman Square Farmers Market in 2008 to help bring healthy food options to Codman Square. We are happy to say we are accomplishing our goal! Although there is much work still to be done, let’s take a moment and review some of the success.

Convenience stores are selling more fruits and vegetables; America’s Food Basket and the Daily Table are in Codman Square; Ballou Urban Farm and Nightingale Community Garden are thriving in Codman Square; and many more organizations in the Codman Square are now organizing around food and fitness.

When we first started the Codman Square Farmers Market, there were barely 10 farmers markets in the city of Boston, now there are about 30 farmers markets in the city. We kept our market vibrant and strong with food demonstrations, family activities, free lunch for children, fitness activities and community building and organizing opportunities. We have also increased the use of the Codman Square Park and led park improvement initiatives.
